Finally Summer

You know it is summer when it is finally warm enough to go boating! Well I guess we keep telling ourselves that it is warm enough! Lucky for us, we have some fabulous friends who are nice enough to take us. We didn't have the best of luck when we went out with Brett and Mickenzie but we still had a great time. We got caught in a rain/windstorm before getting on the lake but luckily it blew over after awhile. Unfortunately, there was some problems with the boat when we got out on the water but Mickenzie and I were in heaven to just be out in the sun.
We had some better luck yesterday although the water was pretty cold. However, this didn't stop Alan from wakeboarding. I think he might love wakeboarding more than me.
Thanks to our friends for taking us out!

Mr. and Mrs. Simkins

Blake and Michelle tied the knot this last week. We are so happy to have Michelle join the group and to have another married couple amongst Alan's high school friends. It was so fun to see so many people we don't normally get to see...I think their wedding doubled as our High School reunion!
The crew at the wedding dinner
The girls
The guys minus Blake after the ceremony
Cute Blake!
The handsome groomsmen
I couldn't make a trip to Salt Lake without seeing these two...
Congrats Blake and Michelle!

Millie Jane

My brother, Scott, and sister-in-law, Anya, just had their second baby. I am so excited to be an aunt again. And what makes it even better is that she is absolutely adorable!
How cute is this tiny little thing? She is so sweet!
Just as cute is her older brother! I love his cheesy grin!
Sometimes we like to pretend that they are ours! Congrats Scott and Anya! We love that little Millie girl!

Sun Valley

A couple months ago the State of Idaho announced that offices would be closed every other Friday due to budget cuts. Although, we have missed the extra money, it has been nice to have some extra free time. This past Friday was my last furlough and we wanted to take advantage so we planned a trip to SUN VALLEY! Alan used to go to Sun Valley every summer but he hadn't been for several years and I had never been there. We realized on our drive that we actually don't live in a small town compared to all the little towns consisting of 70 people. I don't think I can go on a vacation without forgetting at least one thing. About 30 minutes into the drive, I suddenly realized I forgot my running shoes, which I would be needing for all the activities we would be doing. Lucky for us we are experienced thrift store shoppers and knew just what to do. I was a little disgusted I would have to wear someone else's smelly shoes so I searched for the cleanest looking pair in my size.
Alan is convinced that these are the coolest shoes ever and thinks I should wear them when we play tennis. I'm not so sure about that.
The first day we rented a tandem bike and rode to Hailey, which is 14 miles each way.
The scenery was beautiful and we were lucky to only get a few sprinkles of rain on the way back.
The next day we went on a hike. I am not always the happiest hiker because of the hills but I survived and actually had a fabulous time.
Leave it to Alan to find a walking stick. He kept trying to convince me to use it.
The view from the top.
We ate at some fabulous restaurants and enjoyed just getting away for a couple days.

Blast from the Past

We relived some childhood memories this week and went roller skating with our friends. I was reminded of the days when I used to go to Classic Skating. The skating rink in Poky is called Deleta and I'm not quite sure it is as popular as Classic. We were practically the only ones on the rink...which made it all the better for us. I was a little bummed they didn't do "Snowball" but we did play a game called "Sharks and Minnows", which involved having someone chase you across the rink. I think I was the worst at the game and surprisingly, Alan was one of the best. I told him he should channel his expertise in roller skating to dancing! (We took dancing lessons one time and it was pretty much a disaster. My toes were bruised by the end of the night).
All of these couples live right next to us. How lucky are we?
This is harder than it looks!
We did our own "Snowball".
Yes we did a roller skating train.
We ended the night with rootbeer floats!

Home Wrecker

So Alan opened the front door the other day to leave for work when I heard him yell, "nasty"! I found him looking at this....
If you can't tell what it is...look closer and you will see a bird's nest.
I suddenly had a flashback of the time a bird made a nest in my mom's wreath and actually layed eggs. We had to slowly open the door everyday so the eggs wouldn't fall. You can only be so careful and sure enough we found a tiny baby chick splattered on the front porch one day. I don't know whats worse, risking this happening again or taking the wreath down and throwing the nest in the garbage(which is exactly what I did). The poor bird probably came back that night to lay her eggs and found no nest...Should I feel guilty?
And yes, that is my Christmas wreath still on my door in May. Thanks to the nest I was forced to take it down.
