Weekend Getaway

One of the perks of working for the State is that you get random holidays off that no one else does. One of which is Columbus Day. We have been in need of a break from our hectic schedules so we planned a trip with our Poky friends to Heber. For some reason Park City never gets old to me even though I do the same thing everytime I go there. So of course the first day we hit up the outlets.
Cali, Charish, me, Janessa, and Mickenzie before shopping
Riding the tram up to the Alpine Slide

We lounged around, ate, laughed, and ate some more. Did I mention we ate? Charish and I were in charge of doing the grocery shopping and lets just say we might have bought a little too much food.

While the girls relaxed the guys played football
Alan found a great little spot to hike around called Cascade Springs. The highlight here was seeing a hairless cat on a leash. I'm still having nightmares.

This is a terrible picture but it was the only one we got of the whole group.
Thanks to Damon and Missy for letting us stay in their house and thanks to our fabulous friends for coming. I think we should make it a yearly tradition.

Birthday Girls

I turned the big 2-5 on September 28th. I would be lying if I said I didn't have a slight breakdown about this milestone. I really want to freeze my life right now and never get older...does anyone else feel this way?

My friend Mickenzie's birthday was on the 27th of September. We joked (somewhat literally) to our husbands that they should plan a birthday bash for us. Apparently they got the hint and planned a fabulous evening for us. We started out the night by going to the Sandpiper for dinner, which they had told us about before hand.
Alan threw me off and had me convinced that we were just going to dinner with Brett and Mickenzie. He did slip and said something before dinner but he covered it up pretty good. When we got home from dinner, Brett invited us in to hang out for a bit and we were pleasantly surprised to see our fabulous friends.
The group minus Clayton and Charish who came later. Chase and Janessa apparently couldn't wait any longer by the time we got to our 50th attempt at the self-timer.
Thanks to Alan and Brett for planning such a fun night! Alan had work and school all day on my actual birthday so Mickenzie surprised me with a Costa Vida for dinner. Such a perfect way to celebrate...thanks Mickenzie!
So here's to a great 25th year! Can't wait to see what it will bring...

Kitchen Table Makeover

Alan and I were fortunate to be the lucky recipients of many hand-me-downs when we got married. One of these items was our kitchen table. I definitely would not have hand picked this table but considering it was free I can't complain. I decided a paint job would spruce this table up a bit. Here is the table before...
Alan pried off those hideous flaps on the end and almost stabbed his hand in the process.
The actual table was one of our first painting projects. This is when we had the brilliant idea to spray paint in our garage and ended up with a film of brown dust covering everything in our garage. Needless to say, we learned our lesson. It took me several months to get around to the chairs. Partly because I had to wait until it was warm enough to paint outside and not in my garage. I couldn't bear the thought of spray painting each chair so luckily by brother graciously let us borrow his spray gun. I wanted to use the spray gun so bad that we hauled the four chairs down to Salt Lake in our Honda over Labor Day. I'm not quite sure how we managed to do that. I was not aware of the intensity of this spray gun until we began the project. I'm pretty sure the spray gun was not really intended for kitchen chairs but it still did the trick! We had quite a set up at my brother's house to make sure we didn't get paint on the driveway but unfortunately there were some remnants. Sorry Scott and Anya! Alan sprayed while I basically stressed out and held the spray gun.
Here is our finished table...
