Thanksgiving 2012

We spent Thanksgiving this year in Utah with my family. The food was amazing and it was nice to spend time with family.
We are incredibly blessed and are extremely grateful for our blessings, especially for our little family. Deacon has brought so much joy into our home and we couldn't feel luckier to have him. I am especially grateful he is healthy and learning new things everyday. I am also grateful for such a hard working husband who is amazing at everything he does. I would never be able to cope with as many things as he has on his plate. He never complains and actually makes it look easy!
Of course there are countless blessings that I will not write on the blog but we truly feel so blessed!

Discovery Gateway

We went to Discovery Gateway while we were in Utah for Thanksgiving. The last time I took Deacon there he wasn't quite yet walking so we were so excited to go now that he is running everywhere!
Deacon's all time favorite activity was playing in the water. He could have stayed there the whole time!
We can't wait to go again and hopefully we live close to a children's museum when Alan graduates!

Boise Trip

Back in November Alan had a Pharmacy Job Fair to attend in Boise. One of my best friends, Melissa, recently moved there so I decided to tag along and make a trip out of it! Melissa and I were friends in High School. She is one of those amazing friends where you can pick right up where you left off even though you don't get to see each other very often. She has a little boy who is just 1 month younger than Deacon so I couldn't wait to get our boys together.
I'm still slightly embarrassed about how the trip went. I think everything that could have gone wrong went wrong! For some reason, Deacon was completely not himself, slept horribly, and was soooo grumpy! The first day he rammed a push toy into Will and made him bleed and the second day he threw up. I'm talking projectile vomit all over her floor and rug. I seriously wanted to die! But of course Melissa was super sweet and actually cleaned Deacon's puke while I put him in the bath. I am forever indebted to her! Despite the drama, we managed to have a good time!
Deacon was obsessed with this little car and loved pushing Will around. We could not stop cracking up. He was running so fast with it that it was nearly dragging him down the driveway.
The iPad was literally our saving grace on the trip. I'm not sure how he is so obsessed with this thing because he rarely ever gets it but Mickey is our miracle worker in times of crisis!
While our husbands were gone during the day we took the boys to the aquarium.
One afternoon we went over to Melissa's in-laws amazing house and had a blast playing in the yard.

The shnaggle tooth was in full force on this trip! So awkward and so cute at the same time!
We went to Kneaders one morning for breakfast...so good!
We had a blast and Melissa was the best host! She seriously waited on us hand and foot! Hopefully we can go back for a visit in the near future. Thanks Broadbents!

Deacon's 1st Birthday Party

Ever since Deacon was born I knew I wanted to plan a big 1st birthday party for him. I'm not sure I'll be able to do this for all my kids but I have the time right now so I did it. I had so much fun putting it all together and it was nice to have something to fill my time. Although, now that it's over it's nice to be able to work on something else other than birthday preparations during nap times!
I decided on a circus theme and I had endless ideas but I had to hold myself back because Deacon did only turn one! I may have to reuse this theme when he gets older!
We had the party at our church because we knew there was no way we would be able to fit everyone in our house. It was a pain hauling everything to the church but it was nice to have lots of room.
A big thanks to my awesome friend Mickenzie for taking most of these pictures. It was nice to be able to enjoy the party and not be stuck behind the camera!
We served lunch and had two of our favorite chili recipes...White Chicken Chili and Harvest Time Chili. My mom made that adorable book of Deacon sitting on the table.
Deacon was content eating his mandarin oranges...he has a slight obsession!
We were grateful to have so many family members drive all the way to Pocatello to celebrate with us! Deacon is a very lucky boy!
A HUGE thank you to my mom and dad who spent the night prior to the party at our house and helped with the preparations. We couldn't have pulled it off without them!
What's a circus party without popcorn?
I have a problem that when I get an idea in my head I will do anything to make it happen. Alan and I wanted to pull our hair out putting this thing up but we made it work. Yes...Alan helped me do all the decorating the night before! He is the absolute best!
After the homemade cupcakes and cake failed me, I ended up making a store bought mix. However, the frosting recipe made up for it. Do yourself a favor and make this frosting!
My super talented friend Cali painted this darling elephant for me! Another idea I had that I couldn't get out of my head! This is the best photo we could get of Deacon and his little friends!
We had a photo booth and everyone had a lot of fun with it! I got a photo of everyone in the photo booth except my mom and dad...probably because they were running around helping!
Deacon was a bit grumpy when his party started but by the time we opened presents he was being a little performer! Thank you to everyone who spoiled our little man! He got some darling gifts!
Now to my most favorite part of the party...the smash cake! I was really hoping and thinking Deacon would love his cake and I was right! Actually to say he loved it is an understatement...he was in heaven!
He was being polite at first and was just poking his fingers in it.
He was really good at sharing with Daddy!
As time went on he was not bashful at all. He dug right in!
I finally had to cut him off because I didn't want him to puke! He definitely got mine and Alan's sweet tooth.
It was such a fun day celebrating our sweet boy! Thank you to everyone who came and supported Deacon and us. We love you all!
Now wish us luck in the toddler years...it is already proving to be quite challenging!

Birthday Afternoon at the Park

An amazing playground was built in Pocatello about a year ago. This is not any old playground...it is an all inclusive playground for children and adults of all abilities. The playground was inspired by an amazing family who's daughter, Brooklyn, has Spina Bifida. There were countless fundraising events held and the whole city came together to make this playground happen.
We love going to Brooklyn's playground. It is perfect for Deacon because he can run everywhere on the smooth, flat surfaces. There are ramps so he can walk up to every slide and there are tons of sensory activities. Basically it has everything Deacon would ever want!
It was a beautiful day on Deacon's birthday so we bundled him up and headed to the park.
I literally cannot get over Deacon's cheesy face in this picture!
This particular day there were tons of kids screaming while we were there. Deacon wasn't shy and joined right in!
He loves the bells!
We had such a fun afternoon with our birthday boy. That night we took Deacon to get frozen yogurt...his favorite! It was a perfect day!
